Willington on the Way — Jun 2026

Dear Reader,

I've been trying to write this article for the last nine days, and I seem to have a problem picking a subject. There are so many things happening at Willington On The Way that it's hard to narrow it down to just one.

I really have to keep a straight face when I run into someone I haven't seen in a while, and they ask, "What's new in Willington?" The truth is, there is almost too much to talk about. Every day seems to bring something new—whether it's a great sale in the Bookshop, a unique item arriving in the Curiosity Shop, or a wonderful donation to the History Center.

Speaking of donations, we recently received a beautiful and very rare antique wall telephone. Then, just two days ago, Deborah and I picked up a taxidermy-mounted eagle from the county. The eagle is perched majestically on a branch, and we're now trying to decide where to display it. It has quite a history, but you'll have to stop by and visit us to learn how it ended up at the county center and why it was ultimately bequeathed to the History Center.

We still have our ongoing contest featuring two mystery artifacts. If you can correctly identify either one and tell us what it was used for, you'll win a fantastic coffee-table book. Over the past couple of months, we've had only one winner—a considerably younger gentleman who immediately knew exactly what one of the items was and how it was used. The rest of us have spent more time scratching our heads than giving correct answers!

As I close, I want to thank all of you for your continued support, donations, and encouragement. Everything we do here is possible because of the wonderful people who care about preserving and sharing the history of Willington. We are truly grateful.

Thank you,

Barry
Having another fantastic day in Willington
